John Ritter
When I read the last sentence in your article, "We expect to be together for the rest of our lives," I stared at it in disbelief and then quickly turned to the cover picture to see if John Ritter and Nancy Morgan (PEOPLE, May 22) were for real. It gave me a warm feeling inside to hear someone speak of their marriage in terms of "forever." I think it's wonderful.

He blew it! John Ritter was the sexiest male star of '78 until your article revealed his adolescent life-style. Love may be fun and games, but this is ridiculous. Miners' hats?

I enjoyed the story you did on my sister Natalie and her husband, Marvin Yancy (PEOPLE, May 8), but I am writing this letter about your story on John Ritter. John's folks and my folks have known each other for some time and I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago when he and Eva Marie Saint were starring in O'Neill's Desire Under the Elms. John is not only one of the funniest men on TV today, he is a very fine dramatic actor.

Maureen Gieber
Maureen Gieber and her VOICE to me are the epitome of "deviant behavior." Next we'll be taking away the rights of people who wear glasses. Her mind is as messed up as her office.

Nonetheless, the antigay forces won in Eugene, Oreg., rejecting the gay rights ordinance 2 to 1.

Marilyn Hassett
I enjoyed your article on Marilyn Hassett and am looking forward to seeing her portrayal of poet Sylvia Plath in The Bell Jar. Who has been picked to play Sylvia's mother, Aurelia Plath, in the movie? She was my typing instructor at Boston University and a finer, more compassionate lady would be most difficult to find.
Diane Swanson
Arlington, Mass.

Julie Harris will play the mother.

Donn Arden
Impresario Donn Arden may know his "birds" but not his aircraft. That 20,000pound replica in his show is a Boeing 707 or 720. A Douglas DC-9's two engines are astride the rear fuselage, not under one wing.
Joseph L. Quintana

"Our plane may be odd," concedes Arden, "but with 20 showgirls flying it, we know it's the prettiest plane in Reno."

Griffin Bell
Attorney General Bell sacrificed his thriving private law practice to serve his country and has brought respectability back to the Justice Department. Hats off to him.
Frank Myers Ill
Americus, Ga.

Griffin Bell and the Carter administration favor pardoning illegal draft dodgers of the Vietnam era but want to prosecute FBI agents who broke the law due to circumstances arising from this same war. Just a mite inconsistent, I'd say.

Erma Bombeck
Erma Bombeck claims she supports the ERA but never commented before because the feminists didn't ask her. What hogwash! Since when has Ms. Bombeck had to be asked about anything before making a comment?
Rose Soma
Miller Place, N.Y.

Bombeck has now joined Liz Carpenter and Judy Carter, the President's daughter-in-law, and gone out stumping for the ERA around the country.

Erma Bombeck was just what I needed last Saturday. After spending the morning dusting, vacuuming, mopping, washing and waxing, she had me laughing at me, kids and the American housewife. It was like a shot in the arm.

Mary Anne Hayes
I've been a refunder for eight years and a refund bulletin editor (Silver Linings) for five and a half years, and I would say that the Coupon Queen is full of 250-off baloney. Mrs. Hayes must have used every coupon she owned and shopped on double-value coupon days at the store to have paid only 790 for $120 worth of groceries.
Karen Quigley
Waukegan, Ill.

"The 79¢ bill was the best I've ever done," admits Mrs. Hayes, "but my weekly shopping trips usually total $50 to $70 and I always pay less than $10. The stores in my area don't have double-coupon days and most of my coupons are for free products."
—ED.

I must take exception when Mary Anne Hayes says cents-off coupons just aren't worth the time. Last month in three trips to the local A&P supermarket which was having double-coupon days, I spent a total of $1.62 for $171.80 worth of groceries. That was certainly worth my time!
