After seeing Coming Home I cried myself to sleep for having once condemned my classmates as cowards for refusing to fight in Vietnam and for misunderstanding those who came back bitter and afraid. Jon Voight's performance taught us some long overdue lessons—and reestablished my faith in his ability to outact anyone in Hollywood (PEOPLE, June 26).

I wish you had reported more about Jon's experience playing the role because I am a physically handicapped 21-year-old woman. (This letter is being written with a pen in my mouth.) I would like to have known how he felt.

Voight responds, "There is no way I can say I felt like a paraplegic—that darkness that passed over me. I sensed their torment but also the beauty and energy they got from their struggle and shared with me. But I always knew I could get up and walk."

During the Vietnam war years I thought of Jane Fonda as a traitor for speaking out against our involvement. Now, of course, we know that she was right.

I can't continue to buy a magazine irresponsible enough to put Jane Fonda on its cover. How soon we forget.

Bruce Nevins
References to Bruce Nevins' romantic conquests attributed to me certainly do not represent the great esteem I hold for him. It was a quote not befitting a man who is a visionary and a health leader in America.

Jerry Hall
Good going to Jerry Hall, whom her mother refers to as a "good Christian girl." If she didn't have a boyfriend when she was young "because of spending my time being icky," I've got news for her. She's still icky!

Yes, Mick Jagger has a "thing" for Jerry Hall or, more precisely, a short man's complex. And Jerry has a thing for Mick, as well. It's called get famous quick—all expenses paid. Poor Mick.

Anorexia nervosa
Thanks for taking a look at the serious disease anorexia nervosa. I was "an almost victim." I stood 5'4", weighed 90 pounds and was still losing weight. I had all the symptoms. Fortunately I became aware of it, as I am a runner and couldn't keep it up. I just bought The Golden Cage, and it's excellent. Parents, be aware or your children may not have the chance to be thankful as I did.

Bob Speca
Your fascinating story about Bob Speca and his spectacular domino maze inspired me to try my luck. After five frustrating hours with 60 dominos, I am happy to inform Mr. Speca that I am in no way a threat to his record.

Richard Musgrave
While we Californians spend the next couple of years picking up the pieces left by the thoughtless passage of Proposition 13, citizens from the other 49 states still have time to heed economist Musgrave's dire warnings.

Instead of stopping summer schools and youth programs, spending cutbacks should be placed on the government. Officials should drive inexpensive cars and the hell with outlandish business dinners the taxpayers pay for. Then maybe we can get some honest people instead of the greedy, hungry asses we have now.

Judith Krantz
Author Judith Krantz could find some scrupulous cause, such as ERA or environmental conservation, that would be more than happy to put to good use some of the "more money than she can spend."
