The residents of Kennebunkport, Maine, are about to get Bush-wacked. The small coastal town (pop. 4,500), longtime vacation haven of George and Barbara Bush, expects the possible Bush Presidency to do wonders for the town's tourist trade and real estate values. Rumors are rampant that Joan and Bob Dennis, who live 400 yards away from the Bushes' 26-room house on Ocean Avenue, have rented their home and its bird's-eye view of the Bushes to CBS News for $100,000 a year. Bob says it's not true, but adds cheerfully, "I'm an open guy. If I were approached, I would sit down and discuss it."

Here she comes, Miss America 1988, with an income-tax horror story. It seems that Kaye Lani Rae Rafko is down to her last crown after paying her taxes. "I'm broke," she says, only half joking. Uncle Sam, who has never been snowed by beauty, insists that all of Miss America's perks and prizes are income. Says Rafko: "I had to pay taxes on my wardrobe and my Corvette. I haven't even driven the car yet. But the IRS sees it as $38,000 in income, so I had to pay almost $15,000 on my car alone." But as all good Miss Americas should, Rafko can see the silver lining. "It's a beautiful car, and if I ever need to get a loan to pay taxes, I can put it up as collateral," she says.

William Hurt, who just completed filming Anne Tyler's The Accidental Tourist with Kathleen Turner, says he is going to take a sabbatical. "This is my 20th year as an actor," he explains. "I'm taking about a year off. I'm going to read, and I'm going to listen to what I think I'm supposed to be doing next."

Heartbeat Beat: Sela (Hello Again) Ward, whose ex-love Richard Dean (MacGyver) Anderson is the current love of Marlee Matlin, has a new love herself. He's Peter (Robocop) Weller, who, of course, is the ex-love of Ali MacGraw...

Emma (Dynasty) Samms says, contrary to reports, she's not seeing fellow Colby John James and/or L.A. Raider Marcus Allen. She says, "Jonathan [Prince of TV's Throb] and I are going strong and have been for about a year and a half."

Tina Turner's personal assistant, Jennifer Bolton, is trying to find a home for her boss near Paris. Turner has said that she may have lived on the Continent in a former incarnation. But this time around, proud Mary is going to live in good digs. Tina wants five to eight bedrooms, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a guest house with servants' quarters and lots of trees close to the maison—hold the formal gardens. Her budget for getting in touch with the ghosts of her past in their natural habitat begins at $1 million.

Charlie Sheen is looking for a publisher for A Piece of My Mind, a collection of 50 poems he has written. Apparently he's got a quick muse. He wrote some of the poems while touring Japan to promote Wall Street. "He writes whenever the mood strikes," says publicist Jeff Ballard. "Once we were at a Buddhist temple, and Charlie wrote three poems in 45 minutes."
