DOUBLE BLOWOUT

There was no shortage of celebrities at this year's annual Penny Marshall-Carrie Fisher double birthday party, held recently at Marshall's house in Hollywood, in honor of her 52nd birthday and Fisher's 39th. Warren Beatty and Annette Bening attended, as did Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, Jim Carrey, Michael Keaton, Sean Penn, Garry Shandling and Rita Wilson (without her husband, Tom Hanks). But according to sources there, the most fussed-over star of the night turned out to be O.J. Simpson prosecutor Christopher Darden, who arrived at the party with security expert to the stars Gavin de Becker but without his good friend and fellow prosecutor Marcia Clark (see page 52). De Becker tells me that he was not there in a professional capacity and that Darden is a friend whom he has known for years....

At the recent New York City premiere of Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite, Paul Sorvino could be heard laughing the loudest during some humorous but sexually explicit dialogue between his 25-year-old daughter, actress Mira Sorvino, and Allen. At the post-screening party, Sorvino told me he reacted that way "because it was funny, and because Mira is the kind of actress who could say those things and still be so innocent." When I apprised Allen of Sorvino's response, he replied, "Well, that's a relief, because Mira's mother [Sorvino's ex-wife Lorraine] objected to two of the words." Although Allen would not say which words they were, he did say he has no intention of showing the movie to his own parents. "My father is 94, and my mother is 88. They couldn't handle it."
