Former Presbyterian minister Paul Hill, 40, who was convicted in November of murdering Dr. John Britton, 69, and his escort outside an abortion clinic last July, was sentenced on Dec. 6 in circuit court in Pensacola, Fla., to die in the electric chair. His death sentence will automatically be appealed. Hill also has been sentenced to two life terms for violating a new federal law that prohibits blocking access to clinics....
Fallen TV evangelist Jim Bakker, 54, who spent five years in jail for bilking $158 million from his PTL ministry, became a free man again on Dec. 1. Bakker spent the last three months of his sentence under house arrest in Hendersonville, N.C. No word on his future plans, but the terms of his sentence bar him from conducting a ministry on TV.
