PLAYING A CHINESE MARTIAL ARTS EXPERT ON THE syndicated series Vanishing Son, actor Russell Wong, 32, is anything but invisible. "He gets tons of fan mail from women—white, Asian, Latina, black—all of whom would like to marry him," says the show's co-executive producer Rob Cohen. "They love that beneath those rippling muscles, there's a soft, sensitive soul."

But let's get back to those muscles. Born in Albany, N.Y., to a Chinese father and Dutch-American mother, the 6', 173-lb. unmarried Wong credits his great looks to "good genetic stock" and regular karate workouts. Also plenty of sleep ("if I don't get enough, it shows"), weekly acupuncture treatments ("otherwise I retain water in my face"), quitting smoking ("my blood circulates better, which helps my complexion") and keeping stylists away from his hair ("I have a thing about it. I don't like anyone touching it").

What? Is this he-man an ego-man? No, just a guy with a mirror. "It would be phony," he says with a laugh, "to pretend I don't know I look good."
