AT AGE 24, CLAUDIA SCHIFFER RULES HIGH fashion's roost. That Bardot pout ("To be compared to her is an honor," says Schiffer) and flawless complexion ("I keep my face moisturized day and night") can command up to a staggering $50,000 a day for posing. She just renewed her reported eight-figure contract with Revlon; and when TIME magazine announced the return to beautiful clothes last month, Schiffer (in Versace) graced the cover. "That girl!" fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier once said. "I believe this is just the beginning for her. Movies, the stage, who knows?" The German übermodel is blessed not only with her parents' best features ("I have the nose from my father, the lips from, my mother") but with their good manners also. She shakes hands with everyone and has just one vice: "I don't smoke, I don't drink, and I don't do drugs. The bad habit is that I love chocolate." With all that—and a hilltop duplex apartment in Monte Carlo—the only thing that eludes her is a trip to the altar. Every time the announcement of a wedding date with fiancé David Copperfield seems imminent, they pull a disappearing act. Their engagement is still on, she insists. Besides, while she dismisses her own five-carat luster ("I don't think much about it"), she gushes about the rock on her left hand. "It's one diamond, and it's set with two little diamonds on the side," she says. "It's the most beautiful ring I've ever seen."
