Although comedian Jerry Seinfeld claimed recently that his relationship with 18-year-old Shoshanna Lonstein was over, he is once again dating the Manhattan teen. A source close to her family tells us that Lonstein recently spent two weeks in Los Angeles with Seinfeld, 39, before heading off for her freshman year at George Washington University in Washington.
But once there, she quickly found out it wasn't all laughs being on her own. Our source says, "She didn't like her dorm. So her father went to Washington and arranged for her to move into an apartment off campus, and within 30 minutes after she moved in, Seinfeld called." Surprisingly, the NBC sitcom star and his sugar's daddy, the owner of a computer hardware business, still haven't met. "When Jerry would take out Shoshanna in New York," says the source, "he'd always wait for her in the limousine," leading the elder Lonstein to speculate to our source that Seinfeld never came upstairs because he was afraid that he might meet a disapproving dad.
POSTCARD FROM THE EDGE
In other relationship news, we hear that Carrie Fisher's recent breakup with Creative Artists Agency agent Bryan Lourd. the father of Fisher's year-old daughter, Billie. has been ugly. Fisher's publicist, Leslee Dart, puts a slightly different spin on the story, however. Dart does concede that the end of the couple's relationship was painful and that Lourd has moved out of the L.A. house the couple purchased together earlier this year. But she is quick to point out that "Carrie and Bryan are trying to work out an amicable arrangement," adding that Lourd will share responsibility for Billie, who will be living with her mother.
CHEEKY TV
Although producer Steven Bocheo was forced to trim 15 seconds from a steamy love scene on the Sept. 21 premiere episode of ABC's NYPD Blue after the prominent display of Amy Brenneman's derriere caused a minor uproar among affiliates and conservative TV watchdog organizations, he plans to forge ahead with his plans for more nudity on TV. In the Oct. 26 episode, costar David Caruso's backside will be visible during a locker-room scene. This isn't the first time a male posterior has been showcased on TV. That dubious honor goes to a 1983 locker-room sequence in Bochco's own short-lived series Bay City Blues. which begs the question: Is it possible for a producer to pay homage to himself?
CHANNEL SURFER
Johnny Carson may have retired, but we hear that the former king of late-night television is still actively interested in his old time slot and frequently tunes in to the nightly talk show's. So just who is the Amazing Carson watching? Is it his heir, Jay Leno? Pal David Letterman? Card-playing buddy Chevy Chase? According to his agent, Ed Hookstratten. Carson doesn't play favorites; he spends most of his nights "switching channels, like the rest of America.
As for Carson's post-Tonight Show career, Hookstratten says that "nothing [in the way of a television project] that Johnny wants to do has come across his desk." Meanwhile, Carson will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the Kennedy Center in December. And in January he and wife Alex plan to take off for their second African safari since Carson left The Tonight Show.
