THE THRILL OF GETTING YOUR HANDS ON one of those Emmy statuettes must be at least as powerful as the holy water at Lourdes. "I have a bad hip, and I never thought I could walk up onto the stage, but I just flew up there tonight," said Picket Fences' Katliy Baker, who corraled a Best Actress in a Drama Award during the Sept. 19 ceremony at Pasadena's Civic Auditorium. Even such notable also-rans as Angela Lansbury, Janine Turner and John Goodman seemed rejuvenated as they laughed away their disappointment after the show at the Governors Ball and at private celebrations around L.A.

For a few, of course, the Emmys were just another party. Said Mad About You star Paul Reiser: "If I weren't presenting tonight, I'd be sitting at home with a piece of pizza making fun of people."

But a wide-eyed Michael Richards, who won Best Supporting Comedy Actor for his loony portrayal of Seinfeld's Kramer, was dazzled by the celebrity whirl. "Look! There's Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli! I mean, wow!" he shrieked. "It's great to be here where it's live and happening."
