Soap actress Kimberlin Brown, 32, who plays Sheila Forrester on CBS's The Bold and the Beautiful, and her husband, Gary Pelzer, 40, manager of a boat rental company, greeted their first baby, Alexes Marie (7 lbs. 9 ozs.), on Jan. 31 in L.A.
Actor Joseph Cotten, 88, who made his screen debut in Orson Welles's celebrated Citizen Kane (1941), died of pneumonia at his L.A. home on Feb. 6. His wife of 33 years, actress Patricia Medina, 73, was at his side. Cotten, who got his big break in 1937 when he joined Welles's Mercury Theater, went on to make several films for belles, most notably Kane, The Magnificent Ambersons and Journey into Fear. Over four decades Cotten appeared in nearly 60 movies, including Gaslight (1944), The Third Man (1949) and the horror cult classic Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1965)....
Character actor Hal Smith, 77, best remembered as Otis Campbell, the town drunk on the CBS sitcom The Andy Griffith Show from 1960 to '67, died in his sleep on Jan. 28 at his Santa Monica Canyon home.
Actor Jim Nabors, 63, underwent a liver transplant on Feb. 7 at UCLA Medical Center. Nabors, whose own liver was destroyed by a case of hepatitis B that he says he contracted while in India 12 years ago, received the transplanted organ from an unnamed donor. The former star of the CBS sitcom Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. (1964-1969), will remain hospitalized for at least a month.
Actor William Shatner, 62, and his wife of 20 years, actress Marcy Lafferty, 47, are calling it quits. They have been separated for a year and plan to file for divorce in L.A. within a month. The couple has no children. Shatner has three children from his first marriage.
Oscar-winner Warren Beatty, 55, and his wife, actress Annette Bening, 35, are expecting their second child. The couple's firstborn is Kathlyn, 2....
Dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, 46, and his live-in love, ex-ballerina Lisa Rinehart, 34, are awaiting the arrival of their third child in May. They are already parents to Peter, 4, and Anna, 22 months. Baryshnikov also has Alexandra, 12, by actress Jessica Lange.
