FREE TO BE...ANYONE AT ALL [BR] Swedish actress Lena Olin happily gives her all for art—whether it's going naked (The Unbearable Lightness of Being) or going all out to play a maniacal hit woman in the film noir comedy Romeo Is Bleeding. "I don't mind love scenes," says Olin, 37. "If you're very modest in your personal life, it's interesting to explore other sides of yourself without consequences. It's like I'm 800 years old. I gel so many new experiences every time I make a movie. When I'm done with the character, and I cut my nails and color my hair back, I feel that I'm still left with something." [P] SWEATING IT OUT [BR] Cindy Crawford, Jane Fonda and innumerable others have appeared on Live with Regis & Kathie Lee touting their exercise videos. Now; Regis Philbin: My Personal Workout joins the crowded market. "Everybody's got a video, but almost no men!" says Regis Philbin, 60. "I'd always thought it was a woman's medium. What guy wants to see another guy doing exercises?" That was before a blocked artery last year changed his life. "I'd worked out with weights all my life, but never exercised aerobically," says Philbin, who now power walks for 30 minutes three times a week. "I was not exercising my heart. I never jogged, walked or used a Stairmasler until I followed my doctor's orders last year and found out how much I'd been missing. Now I wish I could jump-start everybody!" [P] HIT MEN [BR] Dennis Ryrd, the former New York Jets defensive end who has made a miraculous recovery after breaking his neck during a game in 1992, will see his dramatic story told in Rise & Walk: The Dennis Byrd Story (Fox, Feb. 28). Actor Peter Berg (A Midnight Clear), a sturdy six-footer, bulked up to play Byrd but was overwhelmed when he met the six-foot, five-inch retired lineman. Observed Byrd: "Shoot, boy. I could eat pancakes off your head!" Action scenes with pro footballers were further enlightening to the 31-year-old Berg. "It's every guy's fantasy to slug it out with the big guys," he says. "You can't help but feel aggressive wearing all that gear. Steve Fitchpatrick, the actor who plays my roommate [defensive end Jeff Lageman, got so pumped up he tried to tackle a pro runner and got sent flying about 12 feet. I played the tape of that hit to Dennis. He thought it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen." [P] A DANGEROUS WOMAN [BR] The passionate intensity that Debra Winger brings to a role has earned her Oscar nominations (An Officer and a Gentleman, Terms Endearment and this year's Shadowlands)—and a reputation for being contrary. "I don't deny that I can be difficult," says Winger, 38, who after a dispute was replaced by Geena Davis on Penny Marshall's A League of Their Own. get pissed once in a while, and I don't think it's so bad. I used to do all this damage control. Now I don't care that much." Winger claims there's a double slandard in Hollywood: "If Al Paeino slays in his trailer for two hours preparing for a scene, it's wonderful because he's committed to the role. If! slay in my trailer for two hours, it must be that time of the month! It's never going to change. I think you have to be woman enough to take it." [P]
