When Cristina Ferrare made her debut in PEOPLE on July 29, 1974, she was a 24-year-old supermodel, newly wed to auto tycoon John DeLorean, 49. They were enjoying a lavish lifestyle—22 cars, trucks and motorcycles and four houses in four states. But on Oct. 19, 1982, the foundation of the House of DeLorean began to crack as he was arrested for cocaine trafficking in an FBI sting. "That was the lowest point of my life," says Ferrare, who now subs for Kathie Lee Gifford on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee. "But I thought I needed to be there for his sake and for my kids [DeLorean's adopted son Zachary, now 22, and Kathryn, 16]." A jury found DeLorean not guilty, but the couple divorced in '85. Ferrare promptly married entertainment exec Tony Thomopoulos and had Alexandra, now 7, and Arianna, 5. "We live a normal, family-type life," she says. "Everything revolves around our kids. We really appreciate what we have."
