Sardonic humorist Henry Morgan, 79, whose barbed humor—often directed at his own sponsors—endeared him to radio audiences in the '40s and made him a popular panelist on TV's I've Got a Secret in the '50s and '60s, died of lung cancer on May 19 at his home in New York City. Though Morgan was blacklisted in the '50s, his acerbic humor continued to find an audience, and he went on to appear as a regular on NBC's That Was the Week That Was (1964) and My World and Welcome to It (1969-70)....
Gaunt character actor Royal Dano, 71, who often played cowboys and villains but starred memorably in the early 1950s as Abe Lincoln on the old CBS TV program Omnibus, died of pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease, on May 15 at his Santa Monica home. Dano costarred in more than 100 movies, including Carrie (1952), The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1960) and The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976).

It was no joke when, on May 20, comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, 32, was charged with two misdemeanors for setting a chair on fire during his May 6 appearance on The Tonight Show in Burbank, Calif. Goldthwait, who faces a June 23 arraignment, could receive a maximum $1,000 fine and a six-month jail sentence....

Monica Seles, 20, announced on May 19 that she is seeking $10 million in compensation from the German Tennis Federation for losses of tournament winnings and endorsements. In April 1993, Seles, then the world's No. 1-rated woman player, was knifed by Gunther Parche, 39, an unemployed lathe operator, al a Hamburg tournament, and she has not played competitively since. She claims that the federation failed to provide adequate security.
