Millicent Fenwick, 82, the patrician, pipe-smoking Republican who served two terms in Congress and as the prototype for Garry Trudeau's Doonesbury character Lacey Davenport, died after a long illness on Sept. 16 in Bernardsville, N.J. A former Harper 's Bazaar model and Vogue editor, Fenwick was elected to Congress in 1974 at the age of 64. "All the media would say was 'pipe-smoking grandmother,' " she once recalled. "I said, 'For God's sake, hardworking grandmother, same number of syllables.' "...
