Lisa Hartman and Clint Black were having breakfast together at their home in Los Angeles a week ago when Hartman's mom, publicist Jonni Hartman, called to tell them that the latest issue of the Hollywood Reporter said that their a-little-bit-country-a-little-bit-TV marriage was in trouble and they were living under separate roofs.
That was news to Hartman and Black. "We haven't even been in separate cities in months," says Black. "We're incensed. We don't even joke about our marriage. Our marriage is the most serious thing to us in this world."
And how is the 18-month-old union? "Better than ever," says Hartman.
Glad we asked.
ON THE HEART BEAT
Laurence (now officially upgraded from Larry) Fishburne and Victoria Dillard, guest stars in last month's first episode of Fox's Tribeca, have begun dating in real life. The 31-year-old actor, who starred in Boyz N the Hood and Deep Cover, is still legally married but has been separated from his wife, Hajna, for more than a year. They have two children.
TOM HANKS TAKES THE DIRECT APPROACH
Tom Hanks, a star of the film A League of Their Own. has directed an episode of League's new spin-off TV series now airing on CBS. He says he went behind the camera because Penny Marshall, the baseball movie's director and TV show's executive producer, asked him to. "Penny called and said, 'Will you do it?' " says Hanks, imitating her distinctive nasal whine. "I said, 'Yeah, but it has to be [shot] between these [specific] dates.' And she goes,"—Hanks whines again—" 'Okay.' "
In Hanks's episode, a team mascot, a chimp, gets killed by a line drive.
GETTING HIS WHEELS
What do you get the bar mitzvah boy if you're Roseanne and Tom Arnold? A Jeep Wrangler, which has a starting list price of $10,925. That's what we're told Jake Pentland, 14, Roseanne's son from her first marriage, received from his mom and stepdad at his bar mitzvah on March 27 in L.A. The vehicle will be stored for Jake until he's old enough to drive.
We also hear that Roseanne and Tom supplied such goodies for their guests as a fortune-telling swami, a caricaturist and a wind tunnel that spewed money on Jake's friends. And by the way, nobody starved. In fact, there was so much chow that Jake's bar mitzvah cake was left untouched.
STRAND-ED
Stop the presses! Sinéad O'Connor, she of the perpetually shaven head, has let her hair grow nearly two inches and has displayed her new fuzz at a peace rally in Dublin last month. O'Connor's spokeswoman says the singer periodically lets her hair grow, and she is currently in one of those modes. "Ultimately, she always shaves it off again," says the rep, adding that, in her opinion, O'Connor "looks more attractive with it off."
