For Tonys, Movies and Mother Earth, the Stars Party Hearty During a Busy Week of Bashes
It was the lament sounded on both coasts last week: So many parties, so little time. In Burbank, Calif., Warner Bros. celebrated reclaiming its original soundstages (which they had shared with Columbia since 1972) by throwing a $5 million soiree for 1,000 guests. Chevy Chase hosted an environmental fund-raiser at his Pacific Palisades home that included 250 pals—and recyclable tableware (real plates). In New York City, Broadway's swells sipped champagne and danced at the New York Hilton in honor of this year's Tony winners. And in L.A., Arnold Schwarzenegger toasted his latest movie multiflex, Total Recall, with a blowout of his own. "Speechless and exhausted" was how Cathy Lee Crosby described herself after seeing the $70 million-plus action flick. It was a feeling shared by many who had partied around the land.
