UMA THURMAN: BREAST ASSURED
OLIVER STONE: DIRECT ASSAULT
BABY BALK: Country singer WILLIE NELSON, who became a father again with girlfriend Anne-Marie D'Angelo in December, is still working at being a pop star. "I plan to get more involved in this baby because as you get older you appreciate a baby more," says Nelson, 55, about his sixth child, Lucas Autry. "When the other kids were small, I was so busy making a living, I didn't spend time with them. This time I think I'll rectify that." Indeed, Nelson is now so involved in parenting, he's even changing diapers. "I change the not-so-bad ones," he says. "The real dirty ones I don't change."
NUDE AWAKENING: Actress UMA THURMAN, who was ravished and ravishing in Dangerous Liaisons, plays a barely concealed Venus on the half shell in her latest film, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. "Nudity is not the biggest thing in the world, "says Thurman. "I've done two nude scenes, but I can assure you, it's not addictive. It's not something I want to do often, but I don't want to be disqualified because I have done it, either." Does it bother her that more women than men are asked to do nude scenes? Not at all, she says: "Women are better looking."
STRIKE UP THE BAND: After 33 years as host of American Bandstand, DICK CLARK has passed his trusty mike over to 26-year-old DAVID HIRSCH. "This is a big deal," says Hirsch, whose first show was to air last Saturday (April 8) on the USA Network. "Dick Clark has been married to the show longer than to his wife, Kari. He's a legend, and trying to take over his duties is an overwhelming responsibility. I hope there will be a new kind of younger energy. I think you'll also find more humor—I like to joke. This whole thing is like putting lights on in Wrigley Field. Let's hope that people enjoy the stadium with the new lights."
FATHER KNOWS WORST: Actor KEITH CARRADINE never played the doting game with daughter MARTHA (Running on Empty) PLIMPTON, 18. "I never gave her advice about the business," says Carradine, whose TV movie The Forgotten airs April 26 on the USA Network. "And she never asked for it. She's done it on her own, and that was smart because you've got to make your own way. She's wise beyond her years. She's wise beyond mine, in fact. You grow up with a dumb father—you have to become wise."
STICKS AND STONE: Don't platoon director OLIVER STONE and actor AL PACINO together on the same project. "I just finished shooting Born on the Fourth of July with TOM CRUISE," Stone told Italy's II Messaggero. "I was going to do it with Al Pacino, but Pacino is a shmuck, and as a matter of fact, his career went into the toilet. Tom Cruise is extraordinary—for half the film he's in a wheelchair. He has talent and ambition, he's worked with actors like PAUL NEWMAN and DUSTIN HOFFMAN, and he's growing but he never pushed himself so hard. I don't think he would have done it before Rain Man."
