Cheers to vet Stanley Coe for helping the animals of homeless people. But what about people who are working and can barely make ends meet, much less afford to get their pet spayed or neutered? Stanley Coe, could you move to Toledo?

You mentioned that Dr. Coe and his wife, Marge, have two cats. Let me tell you about them. Several years ago in Seattle, two young boys put a stray kitten in a freezer in an act of random cruelty. The partially frozen kitten was found and taken to Dr. Coe. The cat survived; his feet did not. When last I saw the kitten, he was able to walk with the aid of wrappings applied to his lower legs. He also had found a home—with Dr. and Mrs. Coe, where he is company for Coe's other cat, which is blind.

DOROTHY HUTELMYER
While it may be comforting for Dorothy Hutelmyer to believe that Margie Cox was an evil temptress who lured her defenseless husband away, the fact is that Joe Hutelmyer was a grown man who freely made the decision to commit adultery. Dorothy believes that Margie was the sinner, but Joe "did something, well, stupid." Ever since Adam took a bite of the apple, women have been held responsible for male behavior. It's unfortunate that a jury reinforced this sexist and dangerously archaic idea. Dorothy should direct her anger at the one who broke his wedding vows.

The decision in the lawsuit filed by Dorothy Hutelmyer is a disgrace, and the whole notion of "alienation of affection" is ridiculous. If Dorothy Hutelmyer was too distraught to see that, and still too much in love with her ex-husband to hold him responsible, that's understandable. But isn't that what a jury is supposed to be for—to see past emotion and decide cases based on the facts?

Dorothy Hutelmyer should be commended for standing up against adultery. The betrayal of trust in a marriage is devastating. Maybe if more people were held responsible, they would think twice before they act.
