Given his memorable and exuberant Oscar acceptance speech, you might expect the 29-year-old Jerry Maguire star's fashion statement to be painfully loud. But sporting a look that's sleek without being slick, Cuba plays it close to the vest. His game plan racks up points with our panel. "He's not going overboard," says Comedy Central's Craig Kilborn. "He's saying, 'I'm not going to spend all my money right now, I'm going to wait.' " Don't think Cuba doesn't care about clothes, though. "He's conservative but with a twist," notes designer Kate Spade. "He likes a little bit of fashion but knows when to pull back." Even so, Gooding can't rein in his sartorial energy. "He has style," says costumer Deena Appel, "and it's definitely coming from him. His personality always comes through without overshadowing who he is. He's as close to perfect as we get today."
