Fools Rush In Premiere, SANTA MONICA, FEB. 10, 1997
This was a very special night for me, and I wanted to wear white because I think it's a good-luck color. The dress is an Armani. Phillip, my stylist, made the faux-fur wrap. But something terrible happened. I was on my way to the bathroom in the middle of the show when I ran into Jon Tenney, one of my costars in the movie. As I raised my arms to hug him, a strap broke. Fortunately, nobody saw because I was hugging him. I said, "Oh, my God!" and grabbed myself. Then Stephen Baldwin, who's a very good friend, came out of the bathroom, and I ran over to him in a panic, saying my dress broke. I didn't know what to do. I sat down thinking, "I'm going to cover myself with the wrap, go home, fix it and come back." I didn't want to make a fuss. But 15 minutes later, Stephen brings me a safety pin. I don't know where he got it. I wore my safety pin for the rest of the night.

This is pretty glamorous for the MTV Movie Awards. Some people wear jeans. But I wanted the younger fans to see something besides leather miniskirts, smoky eyes and the heroin look. The dress is by Beverly Hills designer Libbie Lane, who uses beautiful vintage fabrics. It had a train, and I tried to hold it for most of the night, but still everybody stepped on it, even my copresenter, Michael Keaton. It wasn't his fault. I practiced with the train, but Michael didn't. The dress is actually layered with another beautiful satin dress underneath. I gave back the top one because everybody saw it, but I kept the dress underneath. I'm deciding if I should cut it short or keep it long and just cut the train.

The dress is a Hervé Léger, but what I remember most is the trouble it caused. That day, I had the wood floors in my house varnished. Phillip's assistant came to drop off the dress and hung it in the middle of the room with the wood floors. It was like Mission: Impossible trying to get the dress without stepping on the floors again. We tried to grab it with one of the long pieces of equipment from the pool. Finally, I had to put on some white socks and walk on the floors to get it. Of course we were late.

This gown was too big, and I had problems with the corset At the last minute, Danny White, the designer, decided to just sew it on me. So I was standing in my living room with my shoes on, and he was sewing, and Robert was doing my hair, and the limo was waiting. The dress had a train that got stepped on about 150 times. When I got home, I couldn't cut the dress off by myself, so I had to wake my brother Sami, who lives with me, to help.

When I was little, I had a plastic tiara, and I always wanted to wear a real one. When is a girl going to wear a tiara if not to the Oscars? Phillip found this one through an estate jeweler in New York. It's from the 1920s. The dress is an Armani, and it's very simple, so the tiara stands out. Actually, I had gone to Milan, and Mr. Armani himself had helped me pick out a different dress. But then I saw this in his L.A. store and liked it even better. I sent him a note saying, "I hope you're not mad at me," and he sent me flowers with a letter saying I looked beautiful. When I got home, I had 58 compliments on my answering machine!
Batman & Robin Premiere, L.A., JUNE 12, 1997
I was at Libbie lane's shop looking for my dress for the MTV Movie Awards when I saw this skirt. I loved it, hut it was too big around the waist. So I decided to pull it down to the hips and wear it that way. The top was really a sash, but I twisted and tied it and made it into a dress. The whole thing came together spontaneously, but it was a bit of a nightmare. The skirt kept sneaking up, so I had to keep pulling it down. And the photographers kept asking me to hold my hair up, and I was worried the sash would move. The people who watch Batman are young, so it was good to wear something different and fun. But I wouldn't want to wear it again.

It was my first time as a presenter, so I prepared several weeks in advance. I found this beautiful dress at the Richard Tyler showroom, asked to borrow it and hung it in my closet. On the day of the show, I put on the dress, and it was way too big! It was falling off me! I'd been traveling a lot and not eating, so I'd gotten really skinny. Because I'm small, a few pounds make a big difference. I had to put double-sided tape on the inside around my shoulders to hold the dress up. It was huge. I gave it back to the showroom. Where else could I wear this? To the supermarket?

This was the biggest emergency! I was supposed to leave for New York that day so I hadn't planned to go to the ball. But my best friend [singer Luis Miguel] was in town, and he was invited too, so I changed my ticket, ran into the Armani boutique and said, "I need to borrow a dress." This is a big event in Hollywood, so they'd already lent almost everything out. But I saw this dress, and it fit perfectly. Next I went to Van Cleef & Arpels and chose this $526,000 choker. They had to call Paris for permission to lend it to me. It's scary wearing expensive jewelry. One time, I had four guards!
Independent Spirit Awards, SANTA MONICA, MARCH 22, 1997
I didn't want to wear something flashy, so I decided to show some spirit and a little less body. It's an Armani jumpsuit. It was very low-cut, but I made them close it. Again, I didn't want to overdo it, so my hair is down straight and it's messy. I just took the sunglasses to hold it back. It was during the day, so sunglasses were appropriate. I hate when people wear them at night.
Versace Fashion Show, NEW YORK CITY, OCT. 26, 1996
A good friend of mine, Farshid Arshid, manages the Gianni Versace boutique in Atlanta, and he invited me to the Versace show in New York. It was my first fashion show, and Farshid gave me the dress, shoes and purse as a present. They're all Versace. I had my toenails painted red. My toenails always match. I usually have them done because I'm terrible at doing it myself. As the night evolved, the dress got longer and bigger, stretching out. It was a hot, crowded party, and I panicked because I was stepping on it. Then I sent it to the cleaners, and it shrunk back to its normal size.

I loved this dress. It's a Valentino. I put on some fake curls in blonde and reddish tones, which matched the swirls of yellows and browns in the dress. My costar, Mandy Patinkin, showed up in jeans, and he joked, "I'm so glad I didn't wear this dress, because we would have looked the same. I almost wore it!" My metal bracelet was given to me by a woman from India. I never take it off. It doesn't matter if it doesn't match or if the stylist is screaming he wants it off. This went with me to the Oscars. It will be with me the day of my wedding.
The Hunchback Premiere, NEW YORK CITY, MARCH 10, 1997
I wanted to wear something dark because it was New York and it was nighttime. And I wanted to wear something pretty simple because I had already been to the big Hunchback premiere in L.A. That's why this dress is a little bit more toned down. It's a Donna Karan. It's extremely comfortable and soft, and it feels good on the body because it's velvet. They gave it to me, and I kept it because it's so simple. It's not too flashy, so you get to wear it a lot more. A close friend of mine has her eye on it. She already tried it on, and it fit perfectly. Now she's waiting for somebody to get married so she can wear it to a wedding.
