The mother is the daughter of Robert and Ethel Kennedy; the father is the son of former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo and his wife, Matilda. They have 2-year-old twin daughters, Cara and Mariah.

Vladimir Zelenkov, 27, a Russian immigrant who repeatedly wrote letters to Chelsea Clinton, pleaded not guilty on Aug. 27 in Washington to stashing an unlicensed semiautomatic handgun and 156 rounds of ammunition in a safe-deposit box at a bank near the White House. A judge ordered Zelenkov to be held without bond pending a hearing. The Secret Service reportedly characterized Zelenkov's letters to Clinton as "disturbing" but not threatening....

Seeking unspecified damages, actor Jan-Michael Vincent, 52, filed suit on Aug. 26 in Santa Ana, Calif., against the Orange County (Calif.) Fire Authority, charging that two paramedics improperly inserted tubes in his throat and damaged his vocal cords while treating him for a broken neck after a car crash. Vincent pleaded guilty to drunk driving in the August 1996 incident.

Actress Robin Givens, 32, and Yugoslavian-born tennis instructor Svetozar Marinkovic, 30, were married Aug. 22 on Coronado Island, Calif. It is Givens's second marriage; she divorced boxer Mike Tyson in 1989....

Author Salman Rushdie, 50, on whom a death sentence was pronounced in 1989 by the late Ayatollah Khomeini, on the grounds that passages in Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses were blasphemous, married a British book editor who has been identified only as Elizabeth on Aug, 28 in East Hampton, N.Y. It is Rushdie's third marriage.

Kennedy II, 44, withdrew from the race for the Democratic nomination for Massachusetts governor on Aug. 28, explaining that recent publicity regarding his family would make it impossible to focus on campaign issues. Kennedy has been concerned by the allegations of his ex-wife Sheila Rauch Kennedy that he bullied her into granting him an annulment, and by the revelation that his brother Michael Kennedy had an affair with a teenage babysitter. Kennedy will seek reelection to Congress next year.

Robert Switzer, 83, coinventor of the fluorescent dyes and paints that were eventually marketed by his Day-Glo Color Corp., died of Parkinson's disease on Aug. 20 in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Switzer produced the first fluorescent paint with his brother Joseph in 1934....

Actress Sally Blane, 87, who appeared in more than 80 movies from 1917 to 1954, died of undisclosed causes on Aug. 27 in Palm Springs, Calif. She starred with Rudy Vallee in The Vagabond Lover (1929) and with Don Ameche and her sister Loretta Young in The Story of Alexander Graham Bell (1939).
