The story of Brooke Shields and Andre Agassi's decision to divorce really bothered me. I had hoped they would be one of the few Hollywood couples who could make a go of it. They seemed deeply in love and, after five years of dating, ready to take on the challenges of marriage. I'm sad for both of them and hope they find happiness, if not with each other.
Heather Jansen, Piscataway, N.J.
Having avidly followed Andre's career for years, I embraced Brooke just as fervently when they began to date. So it was with a heavy heart that I read about the divorce. This is another case of two careers, two different directions. I sincerely hope this split is repairable.
Sybil Bayles, Monroe, La.
I think Brooke is lucky to have unloaded Agassi. He never seemed nearly as in love with her as she clearly was with him. It seemed as if she carried the relationship from start to finish. They were a mismatch to begin with!
Caroline Wall, Espanola, N. Mex.
Is it just my imagination or does every couple whose relationship makes your cover as HOT, HOT, HOT wind up back there as NOT, NOT, NOT?!
Linda Zavodny, Duluth, Ga.
We are following the news of ethnic cleansing, people being murdered, children losing their parents, their homes and their lives, and Brooke Shields and Andre Agassi's personal life takes precedence?
Denise Buell, Angola, Ind.
Andre Agassi and Brooke Shields should have occupied the small picture in the upper right of your cover, while Kosovo's children should have been the main cover. As a widely read magazine with a good reputation, you should have used your power to promote awareness of what's going on in the real world.
Jolye Bartelme, Chandler, Ariz.
When Andre and Brooke tied the knot, it looked like a perfect match. Who would have thought it would come to a tiebreaker so soon?
Gene Ratner, Carson City, Nev.
The plight of the Kosovo refugees was already haunting my dreams, but your story on the children really brought the nightmare into focus. In the case of Florinda, the little girl who will need followup surgery on her face, you report that finding a suitable host is key to bringing her to the U.S. for treatment. Please let me know how I can help.
Terry Badura, Hyde Park, N.Y.
My heart is filled with sorrow—and disbelief that "people" can act with such cruelty to others. Although I am disabled myself, I would be honored to adopt Jehona Aliu if her parents aren't found. If nothing else, I can offer her love, safety and hope.
Diane Watts, Glendora, N.J.
Last year my wife and I adopted three girls aged 8, 10 and 12 from the Soviet Union. Now we see the horrible things happening to the people of Kosovo. We would like to help. Where can I go to begin the process?
Darren Bradburn, via e-mail
It is difficult to sleep at night or to keep my mind on work during the day. I constantly think of these refugees and their plight, and I want to do more than donate money. My wife and I believe we would be a very suitable host family. We will take Florinda and her family or any other refugees. Please help us help them.
Mark and Janet Sandridge
We received dozens of letters like the ones above. Since our story appeared, we have been informed that Florinda has been taken care of. There are, however, many organizations involved in the relief effort, including the American Red Cross, 1-800-435-7669, and CARE, 1-800-521-CARE.—ED.
Is PEOPLE planning a story on Serbia's side of the war? What about providing some background on the history of why this is taking place? I doubt any war can be so black-and-white and one-sided as this story, with one side totally evil and the other totally innocent.
Lil Sauer, Mount Prospect, Ill.
Thank you for your compassionate story about Popsicle the pit bull. I have been appalled recently by the sensationalizing of dog attacks, particularly by pit bulls. I know there are no bad dogs, just bad people. Popsicle reminds us of this and demonstrates what a wonderful companion and valuable worker a dog can be.
Kim Simons, Burbank
It was refreshing to see a positive story about a much-maligned breed. As a pit bull rescuer, I get so tired of the biased bad press. It doesn't make placing these dogs easy. Pit bulls are amazing, and you've shown readers what lovers of the breed have always known about them.
Sanya Dunn, Upland, Calif.
The Alvin and Virginia Ridley story has helped restore my confidence in the criminal justice system. There have been so many stories lately about zealous officials out to get their man. Innocence is thrown out the window in their eyes. I am thankful Virginia could speak from her grave with the notes and journals she left behind.

If NBC thinks for one minute that the devoted fans of Another World will now watch their new soap Passions they are dead wrong! I (along with many other Another World fans) would rather change networks than watch Passions—even for one second!
Lori Ehrlich, Rochelle Park, N.J.
Passions? Let's see if it's still around after 35 years. This is one AW fan of 28 years who will not "just go on to" Passions or any other NBC show.
Carol Crouse, Fredericton, N.B.
I hope someone with vision picks up Another World and shows NBC what they will miss. Then we can watch with enjoyment as NBC execs bang their heads against a wall, saying, "Stupid, stupid, stupid!"
Leslie Jasinski, Milwaukee
I enjoyed your story on the Ebner siblings because I was in a similar situation. I am an adoptee who is over 60, and an interest in genealogy caused me to search for my biological family. I found four half sisters and four half brothers who are terrific. My relationship with my biological mother is awkward at best. But like the siblings in your story, my siblings and I are doing just fine.
Mary Ann Ashworth, Pasadena, Calif.
Thank you so much for this article. It will give a lot of hope to those of us still searching!

Mr. Novak, come on! I agree with your favorable review of The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, but your comment "Stephen King has never been known for his female characters" is way out of the ghoul park. Yes, some of these characters are a little wacky, but they are also quite strong in their own way. How about
Carrie, or Annie Wilkes in Misery, Dolores Claiborne, Jessie in Gerald's Game, the mother in Cujo, the beleaguered wife in The Shining or the little girl in Firestarter?
Mary Brady, Rocky Point, N.Y.
Julie Krone is not "the only woman to win the Triple Crown." The Triple Crown is made up of three races—the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. Julie Krone won only one—the 1993 Belmont aboard Colonial Affair. She is the only woman to do so, which is still quite a feat.
Amy Walters, Glen Burnie, Md.
Right you are, on all counts.—ED.
You show popular stars with the new trendy eye makeup. Not long ago, these same stars were ridiculing Tammy Faye Bakker during talk show interviews and in skits on SNL. Now they are her! Tammy Faye was a trendsetter and should demand an apology!
