Carol Burnett, touring with Rock Hudson in I Do! I Do!, joked to PEOPLE that they'd do Hamlet next. This fall, Burnett, 66, stars on Broadway in Putting It Together. Hudson died of AIDS in 1985 at age 59.

Dreyfuss Affair
When The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz opened July 14, critics praised Richard Dreyfuss's performance as a poor Jewish teenager obsessed with success. Dreyfuss went on to star in Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind and win an Oscar for The Goodbye Girl. Recently remarried, he next plays an aging gangster in The Crew, a comedy filming this summer.

Feds to Lennon: Get Back
On July 17 the Justice Department told John Lennon, 33, that he must leave the U.S. within 60 days. He fought the order, a result of a 1968 marijuana arrest, and won an appeals court victory a year later. The ex-Beatle was shot to death in New York City Dec. 8, 1980.

King of the Hill
Jay Hanna "Dizzy" Dean, whose blazing fastball led to the Hall of Fame and a second career as a sportscaster, died in Nevada July 17. The former St. Louis Cardinal was 63.
