Nelson Rockefeller, 66, as the 41 st Vice President of the United States on Aug. 20, filling a vacancy created when Richard Nixon resigned and Ford replaced him. Rockefeller (with Henry Kissinger and Betty Ford, left) declined to run with Ford on the 1976 presidential ticket. He died in 1979.
