Borrowing the Malibu home of Frasier cohort Kelsey Grammer as the site for her "I do's," actress Peri Gilpin, 38, who plays Roz on the sitcom, married Christian Vincent, 33, an artist, on July 31. Guests included Frasier cast members Jane Leeves (who was a bridesmaid) and John Mahoney, but the beneficent Grammer wasn't there for the festivities: He was off filming a movie in New York....

Detroit Pistons basketball player Grant Hill, 26, wed rhythm-and-blues singer Tamia, 24, on July 24 in Battle Creek, Mich. It was the first marriage for both.

Uncoupled
After nearly three years of connubial bliss, country crooner Lorrie Morgan, 40, and her fourth husband, Jon Randall, 30, also a singer, have decided to divorce amicably. "It seems like the notion of marriage gets in the way of their friendship," Randall's manager told The Tennessean.

Ailing
Raisa Gorbachev, 67, the former first lady of what was once the Soviet Union, has been undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia since July 25 at a hospital in Germany. Doctors don't know when she'll be released.

Deaths

High-class hoofer Kathryn Murray, 92, who built a dance-instructing empire with her late husband Arthur Murray (he died in 1991 at 95) but who didn't get nearly as much credit as he for doing so, passed away on Aug. 6 in Honolulu. One wag once joked that Arthur became rich "by the sweat of his Frau."

...After learning she had lung cancer only last month, Jennifer Paterson, who developed a devoted following with her chatty costar and fellow gourmande Clarissa Dickson Wright for their cooking show, Two Fat Ladies, succumbed to the disease on Aug. 10 in London. She was 71. "I shall miss the fun of working with her more than I can say," said Dickson Wright.....

Five months after serving as a pallbearer at his famous father's funeral, Joe DiMaggio III, who was the baseball great's only child, died on Aug. 6 in Antioch, Calif., at age 57, apparently from natural causes. Joe III, who did odd jobs for a living, had been estranged from his father for the better part of his adult life....

Southern scribe Willie Morris, 64, whose 1967 autobiography, North Toward Home, described his love-hate relationship with his native Mississippi, died of heart failure on Aug. 2 in Jackson, Miss....

Tish, cited by the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest captive goldfish, died in his London fish tank early this month. Though his age was never precisely ascertained, he was at least 43 and belonged to Hilda and Gordon Hand.

All Better
On July 31 in Darwin, Australia, comic Jerry Lewis, 73, entered a hospital when he was stricken with a bout of viral meningitis. He was released on Aug. 8.

Births
Actor James Belushi, 45, and his wife, Jennifer, 31, a stay-at-home mom, welcomed a daughter, Jamison Bess (7 lbs. 6 oz.), on July 28 in L.A. Belushi has a son from a previous marriage.

In Court
On Aug. 4 a judge in Mississippi dismissed charges against Frederick Barthelme, 55, author of Bob the Gambler, and his brother Steven Barthelme, 52, also a writer, for cheating at a casino in 1996. The pair were accused of plotting with a Gulfport, Miss., blackjack dealer to fix a game.
