Brad Pitt spent some unscheduled time with fans at the Emmy Awards. During a commercial break he stepped into the Shrine Auditorium's lobby to take a breather. But he didn't make it back inside before the doors closed, leaving Pitt stuck in the lobby. When admirers spotted him, they asked if he'd pose for pictures with them. So, with nowhere to hide, Pitt graciously smiled for the cameras.
Perhaps to raise his own spirits after the disappointing box office performance of Eyes Wide Shut, Tom Cruise, a licensed pilot, splurged on a couple of grown-up toys. He bought two airplanes: a Gulf-stream ($40 million, give or take a few bucks) and a World War II fighter plane (around $1 million).
Fans of Mike Myers—yeah, baby!—may not recognize him in Mystery, Alaska, an upcoming sports flick directed by Jay Roach, who also directed him in Austin Powers and its sequel. Myers plays a cynical ex-hockey player turned sportscaster who covers a ragtag team's pivotal game against the New York Rangers. "He had wanted to do a hockey film for a long time, and he confessed envy that I was doing it," says Roach, who wanted to give Myers, a hockey fanatic, a bigger part, but he didn't have a role that fit his comic abilities. "He wears a Mike Brady wig and has a broken nose," Roach says with a laugh. "He completely transformed himself as he likes to do and then lost himself in that character."
