Engaged
Actress Maria Maples, 35, whose divorce from real-estate rajah Donald Trump became final earlier this year (and whose settlement was just a tad over a million bucks per an iron-clad prenup), and Michael Mailer, 35, a movie producer and the son of literary lion Norman Mailer, have pledged their intentions but have yet to set a wedding date. The Donald told the New York Post: "I'm very, very happy for them both. He's getting a very nice woman." Says Maples, who met her fiancé on the set of the upcoming film Black and White: "I was so happy to have my freedom and my life back, and there [Michael] was. Such a surprise."

Recuperating

Uncoupled

Actors Helena Bonham Carter, 33, and Kenneth Branagh, 38, have split. In the ER
In Washington, D.C, to lobby Congress on an animal rights issue, game-show host Bob Barker, 75, went to the George Washington University Hospital emergency room complaining of fatigue and clumsiness in his right hand. Tests revealed that 85 percent of a carotid artery was blocked, so on Sept. 20 he underwent fairly common surgery to clear the obstruction. Barker's illness has interrupted production of The Price Is Right, which he has helmed since 1972, but CBS has a number of reserve shows and doesn't plan to use reruns.
