Sued
Jack Nicholson, 62, is fending off another fender-bender lawsuit. Five years ago he was sued by a motorist who accused the actor of pounding his car with a golf club. On Sept. 22 in L.A., friends Attila Hegedus and Olga Kharitonovich filed a lawsuit for unspecified monetary damages against Nicholson, claiming he caused Hegedus, a salesman, to lose, among other things, "earning capacity" following his collision with a Mercedes that Nicholson was driving in July.

On Sept. 23 in L.A., cops busted actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, 38, for driving under the influence of alcohol. A hearing is set for Nov. 29.
Name Change
Friends star Courteney Cox Arquette, 35, who wed her swain, actor David Arquette, 28, in June, has announced that she is taking her new hubby's surname and will be known henceforth as Courteney Cox Arquette Arquette.

Author Stephen King, 52, who made a killing with a novel about a malevolent automobile named Christine, has paid $1,500 for the 1985 Dodge Caravan that almost killed him. Earlier this summer, the van's driver, Bryan Smith, 42, swerved when he was distracted by his rottweiler and struck the writer as he walked on the shoulder of a road in his native Maine, leaving him seriously injured. Why buy such an odd memento? King told the local Bridgton News, "I'm going to take a sledgehammer and beat the hell out of [it]!"

Actress Lori Loughlin, 35, a former occupant of TV's Full House, and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, 36, a clothing designer, welcomed their second child on Sept. 28 in L.A. Olivia Jade (7 lbs. 6 ozs.) joins big sis Isabella, born Sept. 16 last year....
La Bamba actor Lou Diamond Phillips, 37, and his wife, Kelly, 31, welcomed their third bam-bina, Lili Jordan (7 lbs. 6½ ozs.), on Sept. 26 in L.A. The couple's twins, Grace and Isabella, turn 2 on Oct. 5.
In Court
On Sept. 27 in Malibu, a judge denied a request by Charlie Sheen for an early release from a probation initially imposed after the actor pleaded no contest for beating up a girlfriend in 1997. The probation was extended last year, to June 2000, after Sheen's dad, actor Martin Sheen, reported that his 34-year-old son nearly died of a drug overdose. The judge, who praised Charlie for making progress with his rehab, said he could request an early probation release again on March 27.
