Since meeting at Vanity Fair's post-Oscar bash earlier this year, Monica Lewinsky and The Practice's Camryn Manheim have grown quite chummy. Most recently they partied together on Oct. 14 at the opening of the Hugo Boss flagship store in West Hollywood. "She's a very intriguing woman," says Manheim of Lewinsky. "We have a lot in common: our struggle with body image and [the fact that] we're Jewish and we're single." Lewinsky returns the compliment. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for Camryn," she tells us. "I admire her as a woman, especially a woman who is in the public eye. She makes courageous decisions and has a very good heart."
After finishing up his six-year run on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Kevin Sorbo told his agent there were three shows he wanted to guest star on: Just Shoot Me, Friends and Sports Night. He got the first part of his wish—and then some. For his role as the tree-chopping love interest of tree-hugger Laura San Giacomo in the Nov. 23 episode of Just Shoot Me, Sorbo had to kiss San Giacomo, a scene that was reshot six times. "It's important to get it right," says a smirking Sorbo, whose next series, scheduled for fall 2000, is the futuristic Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, based on material by the late Star Trek creator. "Laura's a good kisser but not as good as my wife, [actress] Sam [Sorbo]." Good answer.
Next time you're in Beverly Hills, stop by a restaurant called Tsunami's, which opens this week. Not only will you get to see some of Hollywood's most legendary surfboards, like the one Robert Duvall had in Apocalypse Now, but you could also have your sushi prepared by actress Tracy Griffith, Melanie Griffith's half sister. Of her culinary skills, says Tracy, one of the only female sushi chefs in the U.S., "It's as much an art as acting."
In between performances on her current European tour, Whitney Houston slipped into a Tod's boutique in Milan to splurge on a $1,200 faux pony skin handbag. She was escorted by two bodyguards. No, Kevin I Costner wasn't one of them....
I just heard that William Shatner has made a $500,000 donation to the memorial fund he established in the name of his late wife, Nerine, to benefit the nonprofit Friendly House, a Los Angeles rehabilitation center for drug abuse and alcoholism where she spent time. There's talk of naming a wing after her.
