Vladimir Horowitz, 70, often kept from concerts by health problems, played his first piano recital in six years Nov. 17 at New York City's Metropolitan Opera House. He died in 1989.
President Gerald Ford lost a negotiation between his chopsticks and a shrimp Nov. 21 while dining in Kyoto as part of his first White House overseas tour. He achieved better results with Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev, who signed an agreement limiting nuclear weapons. Ford, 86, who lives in Colorado and California, and his wife, Betty, 81, each recently received the Congressional Gold Medal, Congress's highest civilian honor, in Washington, D.C.
Dyan Cannon, 35, starred Nov. 19 in the NBC movie Virginia Hill, the story of mobster Bugsy Siegel's lover. Cannon currently appears as Whipper Cone in the FOX comedy Ally McBeal.
"Whatever Gets You Through the Night," featuring John Lennon, 34, with a little help from his friend Elton John, hit the top of the singles charts. Deranged fan Mark David Chapman killed Lennon in 1980.
