What Happens When Top Designers' Clients Have Four Legs? A Doggone Good Show
Has premillennial Manhattan gone barking mad? A case in point: Not one but two canine fashion shows—boasting togs by such top-dog designers as Donna Karan and Richard Tyler—on back-to-back nights. At Canine Couture, an AIDS benefit, stars such as Sigourney Weaver and Peter Berg brought their own pups to watch a fetching parade of cashmere and faux fur. Then, at a party for the magazine Animal Fair, pooches escorted by the likes of Veronica Webb and actress Bai Ling trotted the runway in duds being auctioned online, with proceeds earmarked for animal rescue. Fido may not think Vera Wang is the bowwow, but, says designer Betsey Johnson, "People can get really into the idea of 'I am my animal.' "
