Crooner Bing Crosby, 71 (with wife Kathryn, 41), told PEOPLE he bought a home in Mexico "because it has the best climate in the world for a golfer." Crosby died in 1977.

Season Greeters
Dyan Cannon, 35, joined Bob Hope, 71, on his NBC holiday special Dec. 15. Cannon has a recurring role on Ally McBeal. Hope turned on the Christmas lights at Disneyland Nov. 22.

M & Ms
President Mobutu Sese Seko, 44, of Zaire (left) met with China's Chairman Mao Tse-tung, 80, in Peking Dec. 17. Mao had been in seclusion for weeks. He died in 1976. Seko died in 1997.

Both Sides Now
Folksinger Judy Collins, 35, played Carnegie Hall Dec. 15 in a style The New York Times called "simultaneously virginal and maternal." She continues to perform and lives in New York City.

Up in Smoke
Steve McQueen, 44, battled a roaring blaze in the world's tallest building in The Towering Inferno, a star-studded (Paul Newman, Fred Astaire, Faye Dunaway and O.J. Simpson) disaster film that opened Dec. 19. As Fire Chief Michael O'Hallorhan, McQueen kept his cool as flames enveloped the new skyscraper. McQueen, a Le Mans race car driver, died in Mexico in 1980 while undergoing treatment for cancer.

THE HOTTEST!
Hawaii Five-O, with Jack Lord as no-nonsense police Det. Steve McGarrett, surfed to the top of television's ratings this week. The CBS series ran from 1968 to 1980. Lord died of heart failure in 1998 at age 77.
