Expecting
Ch-ch-ch-changes are in store for rocker David Bowie, 53, and model Iman, 44, his wife of seven years, who are expecting their first child in August. "It's been a long and patient wait for our baby," said Bowie, the father of son Zowie, 28 (who is going by Duncan these days). Iman has a 21-year-old daughter, Zulekha, with her ex-husband, basketball's Spencer Haywood.

Up in Arms
Woody Allen's latest project is a three-minute video clip meant to save upper Manhattan's Carnegie Hill from another high-rise. At a Feb. 8 meeting of the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission, Allen screened the clip and said that allowing the 17-story apartment tower a block from his townhouse would be an "egregious mistake." After all, he reasoned, "I've been shooting films in this city for 35 years. I've tried to make New York City look like the most beautiful, the warmest, the most romantic city in the world. And to some degree I've succeeded."

Voulez-vous divorce avec moi? After 30 years of marriage and three children, singer Patti LaBelle, 55, and her manager husband, L. Armstead Edwards, announced that they were splitting up.

Legal Woes
On Feb. 8 a California state appeals court upheld a 1998 verdict against actress Connie Stevens, 61, who was sued by a former manager, Norton Styne, for $4.3 million, 10 percent of the profits from Stevens's Forever Spring beauty line.

Arrival
In London, British actress Samantha Morton, 22, nominated for an Oscar for her role as a mute laundress in Sweet and Lowdown, gave birth on Feb. 5 to 9-lb. 4-oz. daughter Esmé. Dad is British actor Charlie Creed-Miles (The Fifth Element), 27.

Feeling Better
Paul, could we have a little "welcome back" music, please? On Feb. 21, just five weeks after one of his arteries pulled the stupid human trick of becoming blocked and necessitating quintuple bypass surgery, talk show host David Letterman, 52, will return to his desk at Late Show on a part-time basis. After chatting up his first guest, Regis Philbin, Dave is expected to also rely on the many showbiz folks who have stepped up and happily volunteered to pester Sirajul and Mujibur on his behalf.

Nabbed
Caught leaving a Manhattan Tower Records with CDs by Mel Tormé, Peggy Lee and Carmen McRae for which he hadn't paid, film critic Rex Reed, 61, was charged with petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Reed, who says he simply forgot he had them, will be reminded at a March 14 arraignment.

Death
Original shock rocker Screamin' Jay Hawkins—whose five-decade career often found him rising from a flaming, zebra-skinned coffin to howl his 1956 masterpiece "I Put a Spell on You"—died of complications following intestinal surgery in Paris on Feb. 12. He was 70.
