I hear that Will Smith is playing the doting husband while pregnant wife Jada Pinkett Smith is shooting Kingdom Come, a film starring Whoopi Goldberg, Vivica A. Fox and LL Cool J. Not only does Smith bring the couple's son Jaden, almost 2, to the set every day, he also reads lines with his wife.
It's not only actresses who watch what they eat to fit into a special dress. A source tells me that sexy British import Jason Isaacs is steering clear of the catering trucks on the set of Sweet November, the remake he's currently filming with Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves on Treasure Island, near San Francisco, because he has to get into a very tight sequined dress. It seems there's a top-secret plot twist concerning Isaacs's character that was not in the original 1968 version of the film. Being in drag is quite a turnabout for Isaacs, since he plays a villainous redcoat in The Patriot, the American Revolutionary War flick with Mel Gibson.
Muhammad Ali's daughter Laila Ali, a professional fighter, has set Aug. 26 as her wedding date to former boxing champ Johnny McClain. The Greatest will give away his daughter, who makes her L.A. boxing debut on June 15.
Rapper-actor Ice Cube (Three Kings) isn't taking any chances as he prepares for his role in Ghosts of Mars, a sci-fi flick that starts shooting Aug. 1. The part is a heavy-duty action role and requires him to run on top of trains and engage in hand-to-hand combat. He has been working with a trainer six days a week at Hollywood's Gold Gym, and this week, sessions go to twice daily. Ice Cube is working so hard on his abs, in fact, that he'll take his trainer on the road with him when his concert tour begins mid-June.
Rita Ewing, soon-to-be ex-wife of New York Knicks center Patrick Ewing, is writing a second book, Brickhouse, about a fictitious health club in Harlem where members get their workouts in more ways than one. Her first, Homecourt Advantage (written with Crystal McCrary), caused an uproar among the Knicks' wives even though it was a fictional account of a professional basketball team and the players' wives and girlfriends. (Not to worry. Rita tells me she didn't lose any of the Knicks' wives as friends.)
