On June 3, doctors at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., removed comic Bob Hope, 97, from the critical list as he continued to improve from gastrointestinal bleeding that was diagnosed two days earlier. "His condition naturally repairs itself in 90 percent of cases," said Hope's physician, who predicted a full recovery....
Rock-and-roller Rod Stewart had surgery on his thyroid on May 12 in L.A., after doctors discovered a nodule on the gland. The 55-year-old went home with a clean bill of health.

In Trouble
Outside a nightclub in suburban Detroit on June 4, Eminem, 27, was among four people arrested when rowdiness broke out after fans in the parking lot recognized the raunchy rapper. He was later freed.
Demoted
Atlanta Braves management sent John Rocker, 25, to the minor leagues on June 5. Team manager Bobby Cox said the demotion was related to the relief pitcher's lackluster performance on the mound and not his threatening confrontation on June 4 with a SPORTS ILLUSTRATED writer who last December quoted Rocker spouting offensive views on minorities, immigrants and homosexuals. Rocker, who was also fined for bullying the writer, will now be throwing for a Triple-A farm team in Richmond, Va.
