On June 5 in L.A., Universal Pictures slapped actor Mike Myers, 37, with a $5 million breach-of-contract lawsuit for backing out of a film that was to pay him $20 million. In a statement, Myers, who cowrote the script and was to play Dieter (the character from the "Sprockets" segments he performed for TV's Saturday Night Live), said, "I cannot, in good conscience, accept $20 million and cheat moviegoers who pay their hard-earned money for my work by making a movie with an unacceptable script."
A judge in L.A. sentenced the former housekeeper of actress Sharon Stone, 41, to 16 months in prison on June 6. Socorro Membreno, 48, pleaded no contest to stealing some of the star's jewelry, as well as luggage, handbags, designer dresses, shoes and wigs, and has been ordered to pay Stone $50,000 in restitution.
