A minor electrical problem forced the private plane in which actor Paul Newman was a passenger to make an emergency landing on July 31. Newman, 75, was on the way to the camp he cofounded for seriously ill children in Upstate New York. The plane landed unharmed at Albany Airport.
The family of Olympic triple gold medalist Florence Griffith Joyner, who died in bed of asphyxiation almost two years ago at age 38, is suing a hospital in St. Louis, according to the Los Angeles Times. The lawsuit, which was secretly filed last year in Missouri using pseudonyms, accuses Washington University's Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where FloJo was a patient in 1996 after suffering a seizure on a flight to St. Louis, of failing to properly diagnose a brain abnormality with an MRI. The hospital has declined to comment.
Songbird Carly Simon, 55, recently posted bail for one of her backup singers in the amount of $250,000. On July 13 authorities arrested John Forte, 25, at New Jersey's Newark International Airport on charges of conspiring to distribute cocaine.
On Aug. 3 in Beverly Hills, funnyman Louie Anderson, 47, left the hospital where he underwent successful surgery on July 28 to have his gallbladder removed. The comic hosts the syndicated game show Family Feud.
