Got a cause? Freelance Samaritan Suzanne Schlosberg wants in

Suzanne Schlosberg has built houses in Papua New Guinea, logged chimps' antics in a behavior lab and taught Chinese schoolkids to say "Courtney Thorne-Smith has thin thighs." Her goal? "To attempt to be useful," says Schlosberg, 33, who has been taking on volunteer stints around the world—and chronicling her often hilarious misadventures at missionimplausible.com—since July. The self-described Valley girl, now a Santa Monica fitness writer, launched her career as a roaming do-goodnik, she says, when she realized "the most useful thing I'd ever done was fill somebody in on a missed Law & Order episode." For her final mission she's holding a Free Suzanne contest. Through Dec. 15 site visitors can e-mail her about their causes and Schlosberg will donate a week to the one she judges worthiest. "I'm not going to go cater somebody's Monday Night Football party," she warns, "or help someone move."

When Jerry Maguire's Oscar winner hits the Web, he demands, "Show me the movies." Hollywood insider he may be, but even Gooding can't get enough of movie-biz wheeling and dealing: "My favorite is Ain't It Cool News (aintitcool.com)," says Gooding, 32, who currently stars in Men of Honor. "It tells you what movies have been green-lighted, what movies are being promoted and which ones have been scrapped." The site, infamous for its anonymous reports on secret movie test screenings, is "really helpful and informative," Gooding says.

My young daughter tried to go to the White House Web site and got a porn site instead. Where can I go to complain about this?

Porn peddlers snapping up Web addresses that are variations or misspellings of other popular sites might be sleazy, but it's not necessarily illegal, so complaining to the folks at www.whitehouse.gov (the real White House site) won't do much good. But it's easy to avoid such surprises: Instead of guessing at a site's address, consult a Web directory like Yahoo.com—or for your daughter, the expressly kid-friendly Yahooligans.com.

How do you handle an Internet fight with a friend or loved one? Sometimes when I'm chatting arguments arise—but I don't see people I talk to online as often as other friends.

It's easy to get snippy when conversing in rapid-fire snippets. Simmer down, then craft an e-mail extending the olive branch and apologizing for any harmful words. If the tiff got really nasty, phone.

Tired of tracking the stock market? Now you can check to see if your own looks are booming or crashing. The latest Web craze is AmlHOTorNOT.com, where visitors can view 75,000 photos voluntarily posted by fellow users and rate their comeliness on a scale of 1 to 10. James Hong, 27, a Berkeley electrical-engineering grad, concocted the idea with his college pal and Mountain View, Calif., roommate Jim Young, also 27. Hong's pic has drawn a tepid 5; Young's, a 6. "Now I realize," says Hong, "that I better have a good personality."
