Celebs these days: You can't take 'em anywhere. "If I find out that Angie Harmon's necklace is worth more than mine, I'm going to rip it off her neck," warned comedian Kathy Griffin, the host of Nov. 29's Seasons of Hope gala, held at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan. "She'll have to go through him first!" retorted Law & Order's Harmon, with a nod toward her fiancé, New York Giants defensive back Jason Sehorn. Hardly the charitable attitude one might expect at a fund-raiser for amfAR, the American Foundation for AIDS Research, but no matter: The 800 guests—assembled to honor TV gabber Rosie O'Donnell, designer Kenneth Cole and actress Natasha Richardson for their activism—raised $1.2 million.

The celebrity largesse continued across town at the Marriott Marquis the next night at the $l,250-per-person Angel Ball, benefitting the G&P Foundation for cancer research started by songwriter Denise Rich. Some 1,800 guests—including President and Mrs. Clinton, Michael Jackson and Jordan's Queen Noor—boogied to the tunes of Marc Anthony, who admits he was relieved when the night was done. "You think about who is sitting in this room," he says, "and you tremble!"

...and Do It Again

Performing at the amfAR bash was "definitely an honor," said bubblegum popster Jessica Simpson, who sported $60,000 in borrowed jewels.

Working for a cure "is not an easy gig," said amfAR chairwoman Sharon Stone (showing off a Bulgari watch that was up for bids and a new self-snipped hairdo).

Married Manhattanites Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, along with other stars at the amfAR fete, dined on rosemary-crusted rack of lamb and wild-mushroom risotto cakes.

Sheathed in a shimmery white Vera Wang gown, Law & Order's Angie Harmon predicted a hot streak for her fiancé's team, the New York Giants. "I'm thinking Super Bowl," she said.

Rosie O'Donnell (yep, the tattoo's real!) ran in late.

Uma Thurman (left) presented an award to Natasha Richardson, whose father died of an AIDS-related illness in 1991.

How did Escada-clad Kim Cattrall prepare for the glitzy Angel Ball? "Lots of deep breaths," said the Sex and the City star (right, with Christie Brinkley).

Silencing those breakup rumors once again, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell both attended the ball.

"I had a terrific time," said President Clinton (with Queen Noor, Robert De Niro and the First Lady), who was presented with a tenor saxophone.

Michael Jackson "is about as big a star as there is," proclaimed Cindy Crawford, with the King of Pop at the Angel Ball. "It was great to see him."
