On Dec. 1 civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks, 87, attended the dedication of the library and museum named after her in Montgomery, Ala. The Troy State University Montgomery's Rosa Parks Library and Museum includes a statue of the former seamstress and an exhibit recounting her conversation with the bus driver who told her to give up her seat to a white passenger in 1955.

Mishaps

Jade Jagger, the 29-year-old daughter of Mick Jagger and his ex-wife Bianca Jagger, reportedly suffered an injured knee in a head-on collision with a truck on Dec. 2. Also hurt in the accident, which occurred on the Spanish island of Ibiza, was Jade's 4-year-old daughter Amba, who broke her leg....

On Dec. 2 Scott Smith, 45, a guitarist for the '80s rock band Loverboy, was apparently knocked overboard from his 37-ft. sailboat by a wave. The Coast Guard found no trace of him despite a search.

Expecting
Heather French, 25, Miss America 2000, and Kentucky Lt. Gov. Stephen Henry, 47, who married on Oct. 27, are expecting a baby in July.

Births
Actor John Leguizamo, 40, and his longtime girlfriend Justine Maurer, 32, an estate planner, welcomed their second child, Ryder Lee (8 lbs. 1 oz.), on Dec. 5 in L.A. The couple's daughter Allegra Sky is 1.

Deaths

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Gwendolyn Brooks, 83, whose books of verse often dealt searingly with racism, died on Dec. 3 in Chicago....

Journalist Marvel Cooke, 99, who in the 1950s became one of the first black women to work full-time for a white-owned newspaper (the New York Daily Compass), died on Nov. 29 in New York City....

Actress Anne Barton, whose numerous film, television and stage roles pale next to her most recognized part as the mother of Eddie Haskell on TV's Leave It to Beaver, died of cancer on Nov. 27 in L.A. She was 76.

Recuperating

On Nov. 15 country music queen Loretta Lynn, 65, had arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage in her knee. "I guess after 40 years [of performing onstage], this old knee felt like complaining a bit," she said. A full recovery is predicted....

President Jimmy Carter, 76, fell and injured his shoulder while jogging in San Diego on Nov. 30. The next day, in Atlanta, he underwent surgery to repair the damage....

President George Bush, 76, had hip replacement surgery on Dec. 5 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Real-Life Drama
On Nov. 24 in Miami Beach, police cars surrounded singer Lenny Kravitz, 36, as he was walking to the gym, and an officer put him in handcuffs because he fit a similar description of the suspect in a nearby bank robbery.

Health Woes
Model Christy Turlington, 31, revealed that she has early-stage emphysema caused by her pack-a-day habit of 10 years. A nonsmoker since 1995, she is appearing in anti-smoking public service announcements for TV.
