To remedy that, Sveen, 3 7, created C'mon Mom!, a free how-to kit to help mothers move from behind the wheel and onto the playing field. Developed with the National Alliance for Youth Sports and the Women's Sports Foundation, the kit includes a guide to soccer facts and rules and a CD-ROM introduction to the game. Within six months of launching the program, Sveen has received 25,000 requests. "I had never even watched a soccer game," says Troy Kucera, 38, a Chesterland, Ohio, mother of three boys. "I think moms have been taking a backseat, and now they have to step up."
Sveen, who also has a son, Gunnar, 3, with her husband, Paul, 39, an investment banker, is now working on kits for basketball and softball/baseball. "When moms said they would love to coach if they had more information," she says, "that said we should try to make it happen."
