Suing
In a complaint filed on Dec. 15 in L.A., singer-actress Courtney Love, 36, is seeking at least $1.5 million from Lesley Barber, ex-wife of Love's current love, Jim Barber, 37, a music producer. The lawsuit claims Lesley stalked Love for 20 months and ran over her foot with a car, costing her a role in the film Ghosts of Mars. Lesley's lawyer declined to comment.

Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, 42, and his wife, ex-Baywatch actress Donna D'Errico, 32, welcomed daughter Frankie-Jean Mary Sixx (8 lbs. 12 oz.) on Jan. 2 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. "[She] arrived two weeks late," quipped her daddy, "just like a woman!"

Law and Order
Robert Van Winkle, 33, better known in the '90s as the rapper Vanilla Ice, chilled out overnight at Florida's Broward County Jail on Jan. 3 following a domestic dispute. A police report says Ice was driving down I-595 with his hand over the mouth of his wife, Laura.

Deaths

Swing leader Les Brown, 88, whose Band of Renown was best known for its 1940s hit "Sentimental Journey," died of lung cancer on Jan. 4 in L.A. Says Doris Day, who sang the tune: "The boys and the band were like my own family. They really took care of their teenage singer on the road."...

It was recently revealed that actress Gail Fisher, 65, who won an Emmy for her role as Peggy on TV's Mannix, died of kidney failure on Dec. 2 in Culver City, Calif. Her brother Clifton Fisher, 73, a businessman, died just 12 hours later....

José Greco, once hailed as the world's top Spanish-style dancer despite having been born in Italy and brought up in Brooklyn, died of heart failure at age 82 on Dec. 31 in Lancaster, Pa.

Bye, George
George, the zippy magazine of politics and celebrity started by John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1995, is closing up shop with its February-March issue. Insiders estimate the publication lost almost $10 million in 2000. Kennedy, his wife, Carolyn Bessette, and her sister Lauren died in a plane crash in 1999.

Rallying Royals

Prince Charles, 52, fell off a horse during a fox hunt in Derbyshire, England, on Jan. 6 and broke a bone in his left shoulder....

On Jan. 3 Buckingham Palace said Princess Margaret, 70, "may recently have had a further minor stroke." The princess suffered a stroke in 1998.

Update
An autopsy released on Jan. 5 in L.A. stated that the Oct. 30 death of Steve Allen was an accident and was not caused by a heart attack as originally reported. A coroner's spokesman said that a minor car crash damaged the wall of the comedian's heart, allowing blood to leak out. He died 1 hour and 15 minutes later at age 78.

Reagan Family

In Santa Monica, Maureen Reagan, 60, the daughter of Ronald Reagan and actress Jane Wyman, is undergoing treatment for a metastatic malignant melanoma tumor the size of a Ping-Pong ball....

On Jan. 8 in L.A., a judge ordered Cameron Reagan, 22, a grandson of the former President, to spend 90 days in a drug and anger-management program. In admitting to possession of marijuana a month ago, Cameron violated his probation, the result of a no-contest plea to a 1999 charge of receiving stolen property.
