Does your dog smell too doggy, especially after a good soaking in the rain? Perhaps you would prefer that Rover give off a more sophisticated bouquet, redolent of vanilla and rosewood, with just the slightest hints of orange, iris, freesia and sandalwood. For that matter, perhaps you wouldn't mind smelling that good yourself.

Former Givenchy fragrance executives Laurent Jugeau and Etienne de Swardt think they have the answer: a spritz of Oh My Dog!, a new eau de toilette intended to be worn by dogs—and their owners. "People want what's best for their dogs, and that includes a high-quality perfume," says Jugeau, 32.

Jugeau and de Swardt, 30, came up with the idea for their eau de chien at a brainstorming session at their Paris offices last year. Launched in the U.S. in October, it was one of the bestselling men's fragrances at Saks Fifth Avenue stores this holiday season, reportedly bringing in $500,000 in the first 10 weeks and winning celeb fans like Charlize Theron. "It just adds a little bit of nice-ness to a not-so-nice odor," says Manhattan journalist Meredith Asplundh, 31, who uses it on her poodle Archie.

Because the fragrance is meant to be uni-species, "the best way to apply Oh My Dog! is for the owner to spray it on his or her hands, then stroke the dog," says de Swardt. But many buyers find having their pets smell nice is enough. "I'll let it be Archie's scent," says Asplundh. "I wouldn't want to step on his paws."
