Survivor: The Australian Outback contestant Elisabeth Filarski, 23, is planning another adventure: She will wed beau Tim Hasselbeck, 23, a former Boston College quarterback. The pair, who met four years ago in college, have not yet set a date.

Actor Marlon Brando, 77, who was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital on April 10 with pneumonia, was released two days later.

Expecting
In a statement made by Japan's Imperial Household Agency on April 16, Crown Princess Masako, 37, wife of Crown Prince Naruhito, 41, is "showing signs of pregnancy" with the couple's first child. If the princess, who suffered a miscarriage 16 months ago, gives birth to a son, he will be the first heir to the Chrysanthemum Throne born in more than 35 years.

Uncoupled
Actor Gary Oldman, 43, and his third wife, Donya Fiorentino, 33, filed for divorce on April 13 in L.A. Oldman, who has two sons, Gulliver, 3, and Charlie, 2, with Fiorentino, and one son, Alfred, 12, with his first wife, Lesley Manville, was married to actress Uma Thurman from 1990 to 1992.

Deaths

Graphic artist Harvey Ball, 79, who in 1963 created the yellow "Smiley Face," died on April 12 in Worcester, Mass., after a short illness. Ball was paid $45 by an insurance firm to create the cheerful design as a way to put a happy face on the company's merger. Ball never trademarked the now ubiquitous symbol, a decision he never regretted. "He was not a money-driven guy," said his son Charles Ball....

Beatrice Straight, who earned an Oscar in 1976 for her role as a scorned wife in Network, died on April 7 of pneumonia in L.A. She was 86....

Robert Moon, a U.S. postal inspector who helped invent the five-digit zip code system, died of congestive heart failure on April 11 in Lees burg, Fla. He was 83. The idea, which improved the speed of mail delivery, went into use on July 1, 1963.

Arrested
Aaron Sorkin, 39, the Emmy-winning creator of NBC's The West Wing, was arrested on April 15 at Burbank Airport in California for possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms. Sorkin, who is out on $10,000 bail, will be arraigned in a few weeks.

Behind Bars
On April 12 a Miami judge sentenced Dubravko Rajcevic, 46, a Croatian-born naval architect, to two years in jail for stalking Swiss tennis star Martina Hingis, 20.

Signing On
Three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Troy Aikman, 34, who retired from the Dallas Cowboys on April 9, has joined FOX as an NFL game analyst.

Found
President George W. Bush's former feline Ernie turned up on April 10 in L.A. after disappearing three weeks earlier from his new home. The first family, fearing the cat might damage White House furniture, gave the tabby to a close family friend in California.

Sequel
In Panama City, Fla., on April 17, Dr. William Sybers, 68, was sentenced to life in prison. The former pathologist was convicted of first-degree murder for poisoning his wife, Kay, with a lethal injection a decade ago (People, April 16, 2001).
