William and Harry
Diana would be so proud!
Nora Olivero, Crockett, Calif.
My half sister Jennifer died the week Princess Diana was killed. Jennifer was two weeks older than the late Princess and also left behind two young children. Reading your article about Prince William and Prince Harry, I felt a chill run through me. I commend these young men on their courage. And I hope that they know in their most quiet moments that no one expects them not to cry. I know I still do.
Laurie Wiegler, Stratford, Conn.
So both William and Harry go to school, date and have a father who could make better choices, like most of us. What is so great about that and why do we need to know? They have paid the ultimate price with the loss of their mother.
Russell E. Long, Byron, Ga.
Who cares about English royalty? If it's not Diana, it's someone else in that dysfunctional family. Stick to people worthy of the news, not this pack of misfits.
Joseph J. Donahue Sr., Berlin, N.J.
It's nice to read about the boys as they grow up. Your article proves that William and Harry are normal young men who just happen to be in line to become the future king of England.
Allison Kappadahl, Charlotte, N.C.
Mariah Carey
If Mariah Carey's heavy work schedule and personal problems have brought her to this place, let us, the public, sit back and give her time to heal. If we do that, it will not be too long before this beautiful, young and talented singer is back entertaining us as she has done so well in the past.
Dorothy L. Sinkler, Mantua, N.J.
Boo-hoo, Mariah Carey actually has to work for her $117 million. Since Virgin Records is dishing out so much money, it would be wise of her to invest some of it and get some decent clothes.
Olivia Martinez, Phoenix
Carla Wagner
Three to six years for a senseless murder? Once again a spoiled little rich kid gets the easy way out, and no one receives justice. One less innocent death might have been avoided if Carla Wagner's parents had taken the time out of their busy schedules to check up on how their daughter was spending her time.
Kristi Fearnow, Elkhart, Ind.
Some people point to cell phone use or drunk driving as the reasons for the tragic death of Helen Marie Witty. While those may have been the immediate ones, your article leads me to believe that the underlying cause of this horrible event was the indulgence Carla Wagner's parents showed toward their daughter. What she needed were love, guidance and attention—not money.
Sara Saldana, San Francisco
A 17-year-old with a credit card, a 2000 Audi A4, a $25 bottle of tequila, rushing home to get more cash from parents who are going out of town on a business trip? Is this article about teens out of control or parents out of control?
Paula Julian, Manassas, Va.
OxyContin
The only pain reliever that has put even a small dent in the pain I suffer as a lupus and fibromyalgia sufferer has been OxyContin.
While I sympathize with the families of the people who have misused it, their addiction is their fault, not the fault of the drug. It is very sad that all the emphasis has been put on the negative experiences, and nothing is being said about the positive results of this medication.
E. Renshaw, Hayes, Va.
OxyContin provides benefits to millions of chronic pain patients. Drug abusers will always find something to abuse and tragically some of them will die. Pain patients, on the other hand, have fewer options, and if OxyContin is taken off the market, some of them will die as a result. OxyContin is not the first medicine to be abused, only the most recent.
Frank B. Fisher, El Cerrito, Calif.
Camp Comfort
My mother died in 1980 when I was just 11 years old. That was a defining moment in my life. Nothing was or has ever been the same. I wish there had been a Camp Comfort back then to help me find my way. Kids just don't have the experience or coping skills to handle something like that. I'm sure this camp will make the difference for many children. What could be more comforting for a grieving soul than to hold the hand of another who feels their pain?
Laura N. Johnson, Houston
As a teacher I have had too many students who have suffered the loss of a parent. I feel helpless as I watch them struggle with their sadness. Thank you to all the members of Camp Comfort for making a huge difference in this world.
Jennifer Fodale-D'Agostin, Fraser, Mich.
