The Sexiest Man Alive 2001

Words cannot express how completely delicious I find this year's sexiest man, Pierce Brosnan. Those eyes, that hair, that voice—enough said. Keely Shaye Smith should thank God every day of her life for being blessed with such a beautiful, amazing, shall I say perfect, man.
Lisa Munson, Lodi, Wis.

Every year I cannot wait to get this issue to see who has been chosen for this esteemed title, and this year I was not disappointed! Pierce Brosnan is the most gorgeous man I have ever seen, and not only that, he has a heart of gold. He is beautiful inside and out, which makes him even sexier. He's the total package—handsome, intelligent, good heart and Irish. Excellent job, PEOPLE, on picking Pierce Brosnan as the Sexiest Man Alive!
L. Rush, Lancaster, Pa.

Hmmm. One-woman man, tall, dark, handsome, rich, generous, kind, mysterious. Pierce Brosnan should have been on your cover every year. He is the Sexiest Man Alive. About time y'all opened your eyes and see him as I do.
Michelle Moccardine, Akron, Ohio

Don't worry, PEOPLE, your secret is safe with me. We both know that Brad Pitt is, and will always be, the Sexiest Man Alive. You just give the distinction to someone new each year so the other guys don't get too jealous.
Christine Roberts, Hingham, Mass.

No offense to Mr. Brosnan—he's great looking and seems like a nice man—but aren't you about 10 to 15 years too late? Much better choices would have been Ben Stiller or Ben Affleck!
Jill Patterson, Mobile, Ala.

You're right—age has nothing to do with it. Sean Connery is still the Sexiest Man Alive.
Rhonda Murray, Jacksonville, Fla.

You made a huge mistake naming Pierce Brosnan as the Sexiest Man Alive. That honor should have been bestowed on the most powerful man in the world, who also happens to be very good looking, President George W. Bush.
Juliann Heminghous, Chatham, Ill

I just picked up your Sexiest Man Alive issue, and all I can say is ewww! What a pathetic bunch! And Pierce Brosnan? What were you thinking? Sure, he was attractive—20 years ago. How about next year, just let the readers vote? Or maybe come up to Canada. We have some great-looking men up here.
Sally Cooke, Toronto, Ont.

Talk about standing the test of time! I turn the page to see a still gorgeous Rick Springfield staring at me and let out a shriek reminiscent of those I emitted nearly 20 years ago at one of his concerts. That man makes the heart rate of this 32-year-old jump the same way it did when I was 13. Thanks, PEOPLE; now I'm sitting here all flushed, with my kids wondering what's wrong with Mom!
Tami Pelles, Pendleton, Ore.

We look forward to your Sexiest Man Alive issue each year. This year, however, we thought we had made a mistake. John Stamos? Pierce Brosnan? Did we receive the 1985 edition? How could you leave out Josh Hartnett or Heath Ledger? Someone needs to turn off Nick at Night and tune into prime time.
Kerry Book and Jennifer Prilliman Kansas City, Mo.

I just received my PEOPLE magazine with Pierce Brosnan on the cover. I have just two words to say—YUM-MEE!
Janick Daniels, Aliso Viejo, Calif.

Scoop
Christopher Reeve may not be the Sexiest Man Alive, but he is definitely the best celebrity hero alive. I was very impressed at his determination in raising funds for the paralysis foundation. This is not a man who sits back and feels sorry for himself. He strives to continue on with his life in a positive way. Raising more than $3 million is very impressive. A standing ovation to this great man.
Paul Dale Roberts, Elk Grove, Calif.

Last Wish
Just when Oregonians thought they had control over their destiny by eliminating the terror of an agonizing death, Attorney General Ashcroft brings back the terror. His directive that doctors be prosecuted for assisting suicide in the terminally ill effectively negates Oregon's assisted suicide law. Even those who have a prescription are unable to have it filled. And President Bush wants me to support his war on terrorism?
Gordon W. Dickerson, M.D., Medford, Ore.

We as a nation allow abortion and capital punishment but do not allow assisted suicide! Where is the logic?
Carolyn Hughes, Westminster, Colo.

Doctors should help patients with pain management, not suicide.
Jan Fisher, Wyoming, Mich.
