Laura Bush
As a native Texan, I enjoy watching Laura Bush's southern charm and kindness spread throughout the world. She is a role model for women of any age. I believe it is through her strength and compassion that our President has been able to make heartfelt speeches and aggressive moves on the war against terrorism.
Erica Jeanise, Groves, Texas

If I envied anyone on earth, it would be Laura Bush and her mother-in-law, Barbara. They have both shown millions of women how to be strong. Thank you, PEOPLE, for letting Laura and Barbara share their strength and ability to love family and country. Having been blessed with one husband for 44 years, and two wonderful mothers-in-law, I know that the love a mother gives strengthens the family for future generations.

How refreshing to have a First Lady who is serene, serious and humble with no political agenda. Her quiet voice has been a balm to our nation since Sept. 11.
Fran Blackney, Clovis, Calif.

I don't much care for Republicans and make it a rule not to feel sympathetic toward them. However, even I could not be as heartless as PEOPLE for allowing such a picture of Laura Bush to be printed, on the cover no less. If I were the First Lady, I would consider this a treasonable offense.
Michelle Montag Lowry, Springfield, Ill.

Shame on you! The DMV could have taken a better photograph of our lovely First Lady. Your political affiliation is showing.
Wendy Richardson, Cambridge, Md.

Thank you for the great article on Laura Bush. It is wonderful to have a First Lady that we can be proud of and respect.

Buddy
Poor Bill Clinton! With all the money he's making on the lecture circuit, he still didn't have enough to install an electric fence to protect Buddy. Was Bill waiting for us to pass the hat?
Pauline R. Volz, West Chester, Pa.

I was appalled that you would publish the name and age of the girl who hit the former President's dog. Pets get hit by cars all the time, and you don't see their stories being put in magazines. Why? Probably because it's an everyday occurrence and life goes on.
Rachel Kelly, Troy, Ala,

Michael Jordan
Tsk, tsk, tsk. Yet another celebrity divorce? Say it isn't so! I suppose Juanita Jordan won't be able to live on $200 million dollars, and the 25,000-sq.-ft. mansion just won't be enough for her and their three kids. The poor thing. Maybe we can all pitch in and help her through these tough times.
Mike Brown, Mesa, Ariz,

Ann Richards
Thank you for your story about Ann Richards's crusade against osteoporosis. We hear so little about it. My mother too has this awful disease, and I have watched her go from a woman full of life to someone who is forced to use a walker and cane wherever she goes. I am now 38 years old and take my calcium supplements faithfully. I wish Ann Richards the very best.
Mary Reed, Baltimore, Md.

Dave Thomas
Thanks for the article about the life of Wendy's founder Dave Thomas. He truly represented the reality of the American dream. But was it necessary to mention the name of competitor Burger King in his headline?
Jennifer Raber, Columbus, Ohio

Kristja Falvo
I was shocked to learn of the Owasso school district's practice of students grading each other's tests and reporting their scores out loud to their teachers. I have a son in the eighth grade and can't imagine him having to go through such a humiliating ordeal. Kristja Falvo should be applauded for taking a stand and bringing her case all the way to the Supreme Court. She may be "just a mom," but she's a mom who's making a difference in the world.
Lois Bychowski, Wauconda, Ill.

Embryo Adoption
Sadly, the people who are adopting frozen embryos completely miss the point. Being a parent has so little to do with the nine-month pregnancy and so much to do with raising and loving a child. I am outraged that these people feel compelled to bring nonbiological children into the world when so many children are already alive and waiting every day for a family.
