Expecting
English actors Jude Law (A.I., The Talented Mr. Ripley), 29, and wife Sadie Frost ("Uprising), 36, are awaiting the birth of their third child in August. The couple's son Rafferty is 5; daughter Iris is 17 months.

Law & Order
On March 7 in Santa Ana, Calif., former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith, 34, was awarded more than $88 million from the estate of her husband, oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, who died in 1995 at age 90. Smith spent six years battling her stepson for part of the estimated $1.6 billion fortune.

Deaths
Elegant stage actress Irene Worth, 85, who won three Tony Awards during a long, illustrious career, died of a stroke on March 10 in Manhattan....

After being struck by several cars on a highway in Shoreham, England, Doreen Wadded, 36, who sang with the dance group Soul II Soul in the late '80s, died on March 1. Police said that the former vocalist appeared to be running from a supermarket where she had been confronted about stealing.

Sued
On March 11 in New York City, singer Connie Francis, 62, sued Universal Music Group for more than $45 million, alleging that the company caused her emotional distress by allowing four of her songs to be used in two "vile" pornographic movies. Francis, whose hits in the '50s and '60s included "Who's Sorry Now," says she has suffered from severe mental problems since she was raped and tortured in a hotel room in 1974. A Universal spokesman had no comment.

Settled
Former Little House on the Prairie child star Melissa Gilbert, 37, won a resounding second victory (21,351 votes) over Rhoda actress Valerie Harper, 62 (12,613 votes), on March 8 in L.A. to become president of the 98,000-member Screen Actors Guild. Gilbert had narrowly defeated Harper in November, but for the first time in SAG's 69-year history, the election was nullified after a panel ruled that there were too many inconsistencies in the balloting.

Legal Matters
On March 8 in L.A., John Michael Hughes, 30, who last month was ordered to stay away from actress Meg Ryan, 40, was found competent to stand trial for allegedly breaking into a Malibu house he mistakenly believed belonged to the Kate & Leopold star. Hughes told police that Ryan was his fiancée and he had broken in because she had forgotten to leave him a key under the doormat.

Update
Former NBA star Jayson Williams, 34, who is already charged with manslaughter in the February death of his limo driver (PEOPLE, March 11, 2002), was charged on March 11 in Flemington, N.J., with four new counts including evidence tampering and conspiracy to obstruct the law. Prosecutors allege that Williams tried to transfer the fingerprints of the victim to a shotgun and persuaded his house guests to lie to police. A lawyer for Williams could not be reached for comment.

...On March 11 the Archdiocese of Boston reached a financial settlement of $15 to $30 million with dozens of people who claim they were molested by defrocked priest John Geoghan, 66, when they were children (PEOPLE, Feb. 4, 2002). An arbitrator will determine the amount to be paid to some of the 86 plaintiffs.
