Disgraced former figure skater Tonya Harding, 31, was charged with drunk driving on April 20 in Clark County, Wash., after she drove her pickup truck into a ditch. The Celebrity Boxing champ may face jail time for violating her probation on a previous domestic-violence charge.
A suit filed in 1999 by three of Tammy Wynette's daughters, which alleged that Pittsburgh doctor Wallis Marsh contributed to the country singer's 1998 death, was resolved out of court on April 17 in Nashville. The 5 5-year-old Wynette died of heart failure caused by a blood clot in her lungs but had suffered for years with painful stomach ailments. Wynette's daughters, who were seeking $50 million, claimed that Dr. Marsh mismanaged the case by prescribing the painkiller Versed for their mother, who became addicted to it.
On April 22 in Manhattan, Alfred Taubman, 78, the former chairman of Sotheby's auction house, was sentenced to one year in prison and fined $7.5 million for his part in a highly publicized price-fixing scam with rival auction house Christie's (PEOPLE, Oct. 23, 2000).
