Chances are, the daughter of Princess Anne and Capt. Mark Phillips won't be wearing her gold tongue stud when she celebrates her 21st birthday this month at Windsor Castle. Piercing was a passing fancy—but Zara Phillips (reportedly a favorite of her granny, Queen Elizabeth, despite her unconventional behavior) continues to update the face of the stuffy Windsor family. Zah, as friends call her, "is quite feisty, which makes great copy for us," observes Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty
magazine. The blonde 5'5" knockout openly cohabitates with her beau of two years, Richard Johnson, 24, a top jockey, in Gloucestershire where life revolves around horsey interests handed down from her parents, both champion equestrians who divorced in 1992. Zara also inherited from her mum "a spellbinding complexion," says milliner Tara O'Callaghan, who has designed Phillips's hats for Ascot and other racing galas. "It makes one do a double take." At her mother's insistence, neither Zara nor her brother Peter, 24, holds a title, although they are 10th and 9th, respectively, in line for the throne. They don't live like royals, Princess Anne once said: "Their grandmother just happens to be the Queen." But as witnessed at her increasingly frequent charity appearances, "Zara has that aura," says Majesty
's Seward. "She'll look good beside her cousin William."
